Rs 92L payout to family of man killed in road accident

The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) through its first insurance Lok Adalat will award a compensation of Rs 92 lakh to family members of a policeman killed in a road accident two years ago. JHALSA executive chairman, Justice Harish Chandra Mishra along with other member secretaries will hand over the cheque of Rs 92 lakh to family members of the policeman at the country’s first Lok Adalat to be held on September 26.

The policeman, a resident of Jamshedpur was killed in a road accident near Chandil in 2018. The family members had knocked on the door of JHALSA to get their insurance claim. On the initiative of JHALSA, the insurance company United India Insurance agreed to pay the hefty compensation package to deceased family members.

Apart from disbursement of Rs 92 lakh to family members of the policeman, family members of a Daltonganj resident, who too was killed in a road accident near Jamshedpur is to get an insurance claim of Rs 42 lakh. Justice Mishra said, “Insurance claims worth Rs 50 crore will be disbursed in 500 settled insurance claims and around 9000 pre litigation insurance claims.”

Justice Mishra claimed that it is a big milestone for JHALSA as the judicial body is going to organize first of its kind insurance Lok Adalat. At Jharkhand High Court there will be three benches, while at district level two to four benches for hearing claims under insurance Lok Adalat.

JHALSA for organizing the Lok Adalat had started preparations in July. JHALSA members had meetings with union finance secretary and representatives of various insurance companies for holding the Lok Adalat.

Apart from insurance Lok Adalat, the JHALSA is also going to launch the mobile app and portal for giving legal aid to Jharkhand High Court. Supreme Court senior judge Justice NV Ramana will launch the mobile app and portal virtually on September 26. A function will be held at JHALSA office at Doranda which will be attended by Justice Mishra and other member secretary.

JHALSA secretary, Santosh Kumar said that the mobile app and portal aims at providing legal services to common man in their finger tip. Santosh Kumar further said that though mobile app, applicants can get legal aid and even court fees for fighting legal cases.

Interested candidates seeking legal aid after downloading the app have to submit his or her mobile number.

The second step will be submitting the credentials which include name, address and other details of the candidate. The third step will be uploading legal details such as application, waqalatnama, lower court order and other court details.

Once the applicants upload details in the app, the secretary will forward the application to the chairman of JHALSA. The JHALSA chairman after going through the case details will assign any lawyers from the list of panels of 91 lawyers for taking up the case.
