Gaya rape case takes new turn; victim’s parents allege gang rape

The Gaya rape case in which a minor, class 10 student, of a private school was brutally assaulted allegedly by four youths and later abandoned in a roadside bush, took a new turn with the victim and her parents charging the police and the school management on Saturday, with hatching a conspiracy to cover up the case.

The parents have withdrawn all their three wards from the school fearing attacks by the accused. They alleged that the police and the school management were making frantic bids to save the accused.

“What actually shocked and surprised us is the manner in which both the police and the school authorities acted to save the remaining accused. Even cousin of Mantu Yadav, one of the accused, now behind the bars, who allegedly served her a laced beverage, is still free.

“She has a major role in setting up the situation but the police, despite the statement of the victim girl, is yet to quiz her. Besides, our daughter had named four persons in her statement recorded under section 164 of the CrPC before a judicial magistrate. It is not rape, but a gang rape and four persons are responsible for the incident”, they claimed.

Asked about the changing statements of the victim, her parents said, “She was traumatised and injured too. She was undergoing nightmarish experiences and it was very difficult to come out of her shock. Now that she has recovered, she is coherent”, they said.

The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted on February 20 while returning home after attending a farewell function at school.

Abhinay alias Mantu Yadav, a physically-challenged youth, who has since been arrested, claimed to have entered into a consensual sexual relationship with the girl. The victim had initially denied Yadav’s involvement, but later named him as the main accused.

Gaya senior superintendent of police Garima Malik said the victim has been changing her statement every now and then. “But we have taken each statement into the ambit of our investigation. The police on the basis of the FIR arrested the accused within 24 hours. Investigations are still underway and all inputs gathered so far would matter,” she said.

Repeated efforts to contact the director of the school Santan Kumar failed, as he had reportedly gone into hiding since the lodging of an FIR in the case.
