Chandigarh/Amritsar, May 23 (IANS) A young woman, who claimed to be an IT professional, has been arrested in Punjab’s Amritsar city after her latest complaint of having being raped by a hotel executive turned out to be false, police said on Tuesday. The woman has been booked for extortion.
Police officials said that the woman made her latest complaint of rape in Amritsar. The earlier complaint was made in Chandigarh against a young executive of a five star hotel, who was arrested and is now in judicial custody.
Amritsar’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-II) Gautam Singhal told media that the woman was arrested after her complaint of having been raped by the manager of a hotel in Queens Road turned out to be false.
Police had first booked the hotel manager for rape following her complaint on Sunday. She had alleged that the manager had physical relations without her consent and had stolen Rs 35,000 from her room.
Singhal said that the woman, who arrived in Amritsar by a flight on May 18 from New Delhi tried to check into a leading hotel chain near the Amritsar airport but the hotel staff got suspicious of her antecedents and refused her a room.
The woman, aged around 31 years and claiming to be from Jaipur, then checked into the hotel on Queens Road after doing online booking. Here she befriended the hotel manager and later alleged that he raped her after making her unconscious.
Police first booked the manager for rape but got suspicious of the woman later. She was questioned and her changing statements led the police to the conclusion that she had got a false case registered. The case against the manager was later cancelled and the woman was booked for extortion.
The woman had got a rape case registered against the food and beverage executive of Taj hotel in Chandigarh on May 16. She claimed that she was raped by him at his house in Sector 22 where she had gone to celebrate her birthday with him. She also accused him of stealing Rs 23,000 from her hotel rom. While the young man was arrested, she left the city (Chandigarh) without getting her medical examination conducted.
