Bombay high court today issued notice to the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) and asked them to reply to the petition filed by Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) alleging bias.
In its petition filed through advocate Karan Bhosle, the TCA has prayed that the Bombay high court should direct the BCCI to induct TCA as an “associate member”.
The petition also prays that as an alternative the court should direct BCCI to consider the four applications filed by TCA which have been pending before BCCI for many months now.
According to TCA, the state of Telangana was formed in 2014 and a year later the TCA came to be formed which is based out of Hyderabad city. According to TCA, till 2018 it has conducted about 31 tournaments at different levels and around 1350 matches as per the norms of BCCI.
On 3rd of August 2016, TCA filed the first application to become associate members and followed it up subsequently with other letters informing BCCI about holding matches according to their requirement and asking them for recognition and affiliation.
According to sources, TCA fears that this non consideration by BCCI is because it favours another organisation called the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) which is based out of the same city. The TCA has been trying to emphasise that its work is mainly focused on the rural areas of Telangana which is not of concern to the HCA at all.
The division bench of justice Shantanu Kemkar and Justice M S Karnik ordered the BCCI to file it’s reply within two weeks.
