The victims’ family is apprehensive and is expressing that they do not have faith in the state police in connection with the Chitrakoot gangrape in UP at the hands of SP leader Gayatri Prajapati. The family is alleging that they are being threatened by the UP police in connection with the case.
On Thursday, a team of UP police reached Delhi to question the victim’s ailing daughter who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS. The minor is in a state of shock as she too was allegedly molested along with the victim by Gayatri Prajapati and six of his associates in July last year.
The victim had alleged that she ran from pillar to post for justice and even met the DGP for justice but she was rebuked and no FIR was lodged. The victim subsequently approached the Supreme Court and on the directives of the apex court a case was registered, months after the crime by the UP police at Gautam Palli police station in Lucknow.
Till the time the statements of the victim were recorded under 161 Crpc and even under 164 Crpc, the police did not swing into action. All the while, Prajapati kept thumbing his nose both at the police and the SC by campaigning as he himself was contesting from Amethi on SP ticket.
The police did not dare to touch the influential man who is believed to be very close to the ruling-Yadav family in UP. He had rallies in Amethi. The day voting ended in Amethi on 27th Feb, and then the man became traceless.
Raids at the residence of Gayatri Prajapati in Lucknow and Amethi have yielded no results so far. So the question remains, did the police allow him to flee or is he given time till 11th when counting takes place?Meanwhile, a team of UP police is in Delhi interrogating the victim rather than making efforts to trace the accused.
