Mining in Tikola

No mining operation was noticed at Tikola village in Sonipat district, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) said in its report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Mining activities were closed due to the rainy season.

The HSPCB report was in compliance of the NGT order to look into the construction of a temporary bridge by construction designing firm DSP Associates, Sonipat, for the purpose of mining activities, in violation of conditions of EC.

DSP Associates was issued a Letter of Intent by the Mining and Geology Department, Haryana. The unit had obtained EC from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for mining of sand.

Drain encroachment

The NGT September 7 disposed of an application filed by Dharmendra Singh on the filling up of a drain by sand and soil by some people in New Gopal Nagar, Najafgarh, Delhi. The applicant said that this could result in malaria and dengue outbreaks.

The NGT vide order July 2 had sought a factual and action taken report from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). The DPCC and the SDMC informed the court that requisite remedial action had been taken. In view of the report, the court disposed of the application.

Sewage water disposal

The NGT October 7 directed the chief secretary of Rajasthan to seek an explanation from the Nagar Nigam (Municipal corporation) of Ajmer on its failure to file a report on the discharge of sewage water from an unauthorised colony into the open at Kundan Nagar. The chief secretary has been asked to file a report before January 21, 2021.

The NGT in its order of July 24, 2019, had called for a factual and action taken report from the Nagar Nigam of Ajmer. As no report was received, the court on February 26, 2020, had given a last opportunity to the Nagar Nigam to furnish its report failing which “no other option will be left except taking coercive measures against the Commissioner, Nagar Nigam, Ajmer personally, including stoppage of salary.”
