False Dowry Case: Candle Light March in Gurgaon to Demand Justice for Rakesh

GURGAON: Around 100 people assembled on Wednesday at Huda City Centre for candle light march in the evening making a call of Justice to Rakesh Palania, 29 year old Palania committed suicide on October 5 by jumping from his apartment in Sector 29 because of harassment by the police due to a false dowry case registered against him by his wife Shobhika and in-laws claimed father Anand Palania.
“The family has not got justice for the last 24 days, from City centre to the DCP East office we marched and presented a memorandum to the police. An abetment of suicide case has been registered but no action has been taken” said Sarabjeet Singh Social Activist based in Gurgaon.
 “A case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC was registered against the wife at police station DLF sector 29 against the wife on the next day. We do not have enough evidence against the accused to prosecute further. We are investigating the case anticipatory bail of the parents of the girl has been rejected” said a police official.
Rakesh a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and went on to pursue Master of Financial Engineering from Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley. He was granted Eiffel Scholarship from Government of France.
“I am going to end my life. I cannot take it anymore. I asked him to wait until I reach there but he did not wait for me and when I reached he was dead” said the grief stricken father was the last call from his son before he jumped from the Ninth floor of the building.
“My son was abused, ill treated, humiliated so much that he chose death over life. He shared with me how they kept threatening him of a 498A case every time any argument broke. I request the authorities to take the accused into custody and interrogate what conspired that day and what they said to my son that he jumped to his death. I also request for a fair investigation into this case.” said Anand further.
