In a shocking incident, a 43-year-old was allegedly hypnotised by a delivery agent for Amazon who then attempted to rape the woman at her flat in Noida.
The incident took place on Monday morning when the 30-year-old delivery agent arrived at the Noida flat of the woman to pick up a return, The Times of India reported.
In her complaint, the woman said the delivery agent who wrote his name as Bhupendra Pal in the entry register, came around 11.20 am to pick up a return of five boxes. However, an argument broke out between the two after he refused to accept all five boxes.
The woman’s sister told the daily that her sister spoke to the customer care and complained about the delivery agent after which he left — only to return.
As he came back to her flat, the accused allegedly told the woman he will pick all five boxes, but she refused to hand over the package as customer care had schedule pick-up for another day. It is then that the woman alleged she was hypnotised following which she lost consciousness.
She told police that when she regained consciousness, the pick-up agent had lowered his pants and was standing in front of her. The woman said she screamed for help and rushed to washroom where she found a wiper. She beat up the man with the wiper following which he fled.
The woman called her sister who dialled the number the accused had given at society’s gate. The victim’s sister said he answered the call and told her he had come from Amazon’s pick-up office in Sector 58.
Acting on the complaint, the police said they have filed a case against Bhundendra Pal. Accused was traced with the help of details in the entry register of the society, police said.
A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Bhupendra.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, an Amazon spokesperson told ToI that safety is of utmost importance to the company. These allegations are troubling. We are taking immediate action with our delivery service provider and police as they investigate, the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
