PM Modi launches ICMIS, Supreme Court to go paperless

The Supreme Court of India is soon going completely digital. The soon-to-be-introduced Integrated Case Management Information System (ICMIS) inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi shall give access to the litigant so that he/she can file a case digitally and track its status on a real-time basis.

According to a report by The Hindu, Chief Justice JS Khehar has recommended that all the 24 high court judges take some time out during the summer break to bring this practice in place. He said,

“We proposed to integrate the system with all the 24 high courts and the subordinate courts. It would help usher in transparency, reduce manipulation, and help the litigant track the progress of a case on a real-time basis.”

The apex court reportedly has more than 61,000 cases pending and all the high courts have 38.7 lakh pending cases. In this context, the Prime Minister has thanked the authorities for taking this concept up. He even expressed his hope that millions of litres of water and plenty of trees can be saved this way.
