The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the election of state Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu as the chief of the Punjab Badminton Association.
The old association’s joint secretary Tajinder Singh had filed a petition in the High Court regarding this election. In this, it was said the elections were held without informing the old association. The High Court heard the case on Friday last and stayed the election results.
Tajinder Singh said the Punjab Badminton Association had decided to hold elections during February and March 2020. Elections could not be held then due to coronavirus infection. The association then decided to contest on November 22, for some reason the date was changed to December 27. During this, the officials of the Sports Department intervened and formed a three-member committee. This committee fixed the date of elections on December 13 without informing the officials of the old association.
He filed the nomination on December 9 and announced the election results on December 10. In this, a total of 21 people have been selected, including Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu as head, four deputy heads. The petitioner then moved the High Court, saying there was talk of interference from the sports department and holding elections without informing the old association.
On hearing his petition, Justice GS Sandhawalia withheld the results with immediate effect. The next hearing will be on January 25.
