‘UP needs three more high court benches’

Agra: The minister of state for human resource development, Satya Pal Singh, on Monday said that there was need for three more high court benches in the state which has a population of around 22 crore. These HC benches, Singh said, could be formed in Agra, Meerut and Gorakhpur districts. Speaking to media persons at the circuit house here, Singh said, “I have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about setting up more high court benches here. We have a HC in Allahabad and another bench in Lucknow that caters to 12 districts. There is a need to build more high court benches in the state.”
The minister also said that the state government is fully committed to improve law and order situation in the state. “Suggestions have been made to chief minister Adityanath Yogi to implement police commissioner system in UP like those in some cities with a population of more than 10 lakh,” he said.
Singh also said that Agra, which is a tourist destination, will get a good airport soon. Speaking about land mafias, he said that the state government’s special task force to remove illegal encroachments has yielded positive results. He also informed that 18,000 acres of land has been freed of encroachments since the formation of the BJP government.
