Wanlura Diengdoh appointed Meghalaya HC Judge.

Wanlura Diengdoh, the District and Sessions Judge in Shillong, has been appointed as a judge of the Meghalaya High Court.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Wanlura Diengdoh to be a judge of the Meghalaya High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” a notification said.

The proposal to elevate Diengdoh as judge of the Meghalaya High Court was approved by the Supreme Court Collegium during its meeting on October 15.

With the appointment of Diengdoh, the Meghalaya High Court will have three judges including the newly appointed Chief Justice Mohammed Rafiq and Justice Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew.

Diengdoh, currently serving as the District and Sessions Judge, Shillong, joined the judicial service in 2000 as an Additional District and Sessions Judge.

Later he held the post as the first registrar general of the High Court of Meghalaya.

He was also the member secretary of the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.

Meanwhile, the new Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Mohammed Rafiq, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

The new Chief Justice has succeeded Ajay Kumar Mittal, who has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
